Had a valve job done on 1980 Corvette with 38,000 miles. Car ran great when work was completed. Smooth and quick. Then, after about 400 miles on that valve job, a vibration began. It is subtle but it is throughout the frame of the car at speeds over 55. It is not tire bounce. The mechanic who works on my car thinks it might be a motor mount problem or a vibration set up by the exhaust due to the hanger on the Y pipe that is connected to the top of the transmission. I just had the complete drive train rebuilt from the Flywheel back. The vibration persists. The sensation is that of driving over rumble strips that are about 6 inches apart, only very subtle.
This mechanic has also asked me if this car was once an automatic and someone converted it to standard. Is there any way to find that out? I thought the VIN number might tell me, but it doesn't.
I think I am the 3rd owner and the car was first registered in NY. Thanks.
Established in 2008 by Chris Trautman, Corvette Web Central quickly grew into one of the top leading Corvette enthusiast websites globally.
"This website is a passion of mine, just as much as being a Corvette owner," says Chris. He was frustrated trying to find information on the internet about Corvettes which was was not biased or influenced somehow.
He has owned three Corvettes over the last twenty years and does not plan to stop owning one anytime soon.
