Touch screen is non-responsive to touch

2005 C6 Convertible with navigation & Bose. Recently the touch screen has stopped responding to touch. I can change to audio settings, source, navigation via the physical buttons and the screen changes appropriately, but nothing on the touch screen responds.
Is this a typical and known issue? Potential fix, other than after-market replacement?
I thought at one point if I touched (much) higher on the screen, it would activate a selection much lower on the screen, but when I tried to duplicate that recently, it did not work.
