tight shifter and plastic smell

Hi, It seems my 2001 corvette may have a shifter issue. It only has 24k on miles and is not driven that much. When I do drive it it seems the manual shifter is tighter that it has been in the past. I also smell a slight hint of plastic after driving awhile.
Cant tell if its the clutch or something with the shifter itself. The clucth seems to be ok but not sure.
Can anyone help?
