I have a 1968 Corvette and will be storing it at a storage facility for the first time this winter. I normally start it every week or so to let it run but that will not be possible this year. With the battery inside the cabin behind the front seat, I want to be particularly careful that I am hooking up the batter maintainer correctly. So I have a very basic question: Is there a good step by step set of instructions for using a battery maintainer on my 1968 C3?
The instructions included with the CTEK MXS 5.0 Battery Charger & Maintainer don't address the unique "battery within the cabin" aspect of the C3. Specifically, where should I attach the negative clip? This and any other advice on process and safety is appreciated.
Answer
Thank you for your question. We recommend hard wiring in a lead that allows you to plug into the car electrical system. This will allow you to do so without having the charger inside the car. We recommend under the hood near the passenger side area along the frame. Any clean paint free frame ground would be sufficient for the ground and any hot battery lead such as alternator as a starting point attach the positive lead. We recommend a lead such as C-Tek Extension Cable to make the installation pre and post season easier.
Judging from your picture it appears your battery is vent less and probably an AGM style battery. Good choice if this is true. This means less potential for gassing of battery during charge and potentially hurting the interior of the car.
