Sounded like a blowout then smoke or steam from engine

79 Vette driving at about 65 mph it sounded like I had a blowout pulled over and smoke was coming from under the hood no fluids were leaking no oil spray but when I start it it sounds like ww3 ?????
Any ideas as to what happened
