S.O. Tag on my 1956 corvette

I have a aluminum plate stat is located on the right rear part of the engine compartment. The tag has S.O. Stamped in it followed by a number and the date the car was made. Any ideas as to its importance? I’ve owned numerous corvettes and never seen such a plate or tag.
