Shifter and ignition switch problem

I recently have had my shifter button (automatic tranny) not returning to the up ( or home) position on my 93 corvette and now the key switch is giving me a problem at times getting it into the lock position so i can remove the key from the ignition i'm thinking they are directly conected to the same problem can u give me an idea what to look for? i have looked at the cables on the shifter in the console and it looks fine is there a solinoid or switch i'm missing? any help would be appriciated.
