I have thought of that, bought mech gauge to hook up on pass side head to c what it reads. All gauges on 80 run off printed board and I do have a hot spot on it think I will change all my gauges to white face and all mechanically operated.

Don't know about your particulars.

I got similar problem.

Have you checked the actual temp of the radiator water? I bought a candy thermometer and it reads drastically different than the instrument cluster gauge. I'm doing further research, it also appears than a partial short in the wiring may give a false reading.
