overdrive in first gear

1988 corrvette convertable 4+3 trans start in first gear acelerate to 25 miles anhour and deprees clutch and depress the overdrive button and let out the clutch and it is in overdrive in first gear and will eccelerate easly to 60 miles anhour in first gear is this normal?
