Is it possible for me to change the sensor without major mechanical problems?

Answer:
Yes it is. This is a very common problem with the sensor. This is defiantly the C5 Corvette Oil Pressure sensor P/N 12616646 or also known as ACDelco D1846A OE Service Engine Oil Pressure Sensor Access is behind the intake manifold valley area of engine.
