no fire to fuel pump on 85 vette

Thought our fuel pump was bad replaced it and now it's like no fire is going to the pump. We also replace the fuel pump relay,. We ran a wire from battery to fuel pump and the fuel pump is working. So why is it not getting fire. We drove it home from a trip and it hasn't started since. It turns over, but the fuel pump can't work if its not getting fire.
