As for your question: Generally if you have painted a panel its either single stage or two stage. Single stage has a gloss already in the color coat. Two stage which I m assuming is what you are talking about is usually part of a system of base color then clear. Like you have said you need a clear coat. If that's the case you want to stick with the same MFG as the Base paint for the best quality and compatibility. The base paint should look very flat only color. In my experience the two stage system is more forgiving for application. The area where you paint, temp and size will determine the reducers to use. It can be done if you have the skills, patients, and the right tools to do the job. I hope this helped. If not please don't be shy to ask again!
