I am looking for someone who has solved or at least has found a way to make acceptable the interior heat in a 1972. I currently have the motor out and being rebuilt. I have seen where there is available various tunnel insulation, and a foam seal for above the bell housing. Do these work any experience out there? I will be sealing up all firewall holes and pulling the AC/heater bow housing and repairing the crack i heard plagues this car and lets the heat in that way. Looking for any other helpful hints from someone with experience.

heat in the cockpit*
by: Auto Appraiser Ned

Mark, there is a heat barrier material available from GM. or replacement companies. it looks like aluminum foil with insulation in it* It goes under the carpets directly against the floor pans. it helps, also you may want to install an inline plumbing lever type (on /off) valve in the heater hose lines? It can be purchased at any home depot... just flip the lever to OFF and no hot water will circulate in to the heater core? IF you are running headers
completely heat wrap the headers... top to bottom. 1 complete roll per each side.... of good type header wrap...do not buy the cheap stuff...I have a 78 with headers and this helped greatly. if stock exhaust... insulate heat wrap the pipes under the compartment floor pans just some thoughts. hope this helps ....thanks
