key fob acting strange

I have followed all the reprogramming instructions and replaced batteries in both fobs. frequently I need to hold both lock and unlock buttons down until the horn sounds. then the fobs will work for a period of time, sometimes a couple of days, sometimes a couple of hours. then I need to do the "LOCK and UNLOCK" routine again until the horn beeps. When the reset works, it also seems to reset the pages displayed on the heads up, as I need to change that back to my preferred setting. Anyone heard of this? its a C5 2000 convertible
