Importing into Canada

by Cory

I am looking into importing a corvette into Canada, I'm looking at something in the 2000-2002 range. There are two things that a vehicle has to have to be registered in Canada, daytime running lights, and the odometer has to be able to display kilometers. I don't know if the speedometer has to display kilometers or not, but the odometer must. Can anyone tell me if it is standard to have the running lights in the U.S. and any info on the speedometer/odometer?

Thanks

You have to have original sheet from vendor that is a certificate of U.S.origin and sale to you. RIV is Canadian import by federal govt. Go online when you have serial no.s etc.You have to have certifacate copy sent to your nearest U.S. customs 72 hour b4 you bring through and have to sign import papers at U.S. customs as they need to know what is leaving country. Go to Can customs and pay your 5% gst. As long as you have insured vehicle b4 you leave Canada you will get a paper permit to drive in U.S. for 30 days.I have brought 2 vettes back last year and I didnt have all my ducks in a row so couldnt enter Canada and was fortunate sister has home just on U.S. side. As well make sure that however you pay that it is just like cash or you wont get U.S. certifacate till payment clears and that can take 2 weeks.Buying in Arizona is not great because the state tax laws make it so you have to pay their tax and then reapply or go to California border to have get notary public to sign you off so you can pay provincial tax for insurance.approx 300.00.If you dont do this hotels will cost you although nice stay and cheap booze.
