key not returning to lock position
by: R.Bradley

Its the linkage cable to the tranny from the shift lever. Loose or bent. There is the collar that turns on the column when shifting. Grab with both hands and turn counter clockwise till stops after putting in park. Key will come out. You'll have to adjust or replace the cable. Easy process. Have fun!!!

Thanks for the comments...I got it fixed....It was the cable from the steering column to the tranny....It wasn't attached right....it wouldn't let the key cylinder go back to lock when in park....I'm almost on the road....just need some new TA Radials and I'll post the picts....Thanks to all

key wont come out
by: pat o

if you have an early c3 manula car must be in reverse for key to go all the way back and remove.
auto must be in park. if still problem check cable from trans to steering colum under the hood below master cylinder it may be stuck, broke or missing. that cable moves a lever on the column to relase lock and let key turn back

Stuck Key
by: Alan in VA

I'm having the same problem...The car starts and cuts off, but key will not come out of cylinder and will not go to lock or acc.....I've taken it all apart and the rack & gear only turn about 1/4 inch...I'm thinking about lowering the steering column and checking the rod to the ignition switch....
