HUD works intermittently

HUD works for four of five days in a row and then will not come on for a day or so. Dimmer switch works when its on and the image moves up or down when the switch is pushed. I have had the wiring checked and nothing could be found wrong and was told the HUD would have to be replaced. Any ideas?
