how hard is it to replace a fuel pump in a 1982 vette

I have a 1982 corvette that has sat for 8 months because of a bad fuel pump I am trying to figure out if I can change the pump myself or do I need to take it to a shop. Also should I replace the tank at the same time or is that unnecessary?
