How do I increase stock engine performance on a 1977 Corvette?

by Dan

I have a 1977 Corvette with L48 THM350 Trans and 3.08 gears, basically stock. I drive mostly in the city and would like to get a little more kick when I step on the gas. I don'y plan on racing it. What would be a low cost upgrade while maintaining originality?

Gears

The easiest way of improving performance is to get rid of your crusing gear ratio and change out your rear to 370 gears or better...instant improvement...less gas mileage.

advice from experience $$$
by: Auto Appraiser * Ned

please remember...this is only one mans opinion.....the best advice I can give you is to drive and enjoy your corvette. L48 has 185 horsepower, and an upgraded L82 has 220 horsepower. not much of a kick considering stock engines. there is horsepower and there is tourque...2 things that give it a kick in the pants....both cost $$$ and then you may break parts and spend it again. take my advice drive a corvette and enjoy it....build a race car to go fast. been there and done that. then again sometimes you have to do it to realize it? thanks

More Kick

It depends on how much of kick you want. The bigger the kick the more work that will be required. I wish I could be more helpful. What kind of budget?
