hatch key will not work

Hi, I recently purchased a 2005 corvette, and had to have my local dealer cut a key for the hatch access lock above the license plate. The problem I am having is the key will not turn when inserted into the lock; I have checked to see if the cable was attached to the lock mechanism and it was, will I have to replace the lock itself and if so how ?
