Hard clunking when shifting

1969 small block 350 auto shifts very hard from P to D and R
Also engine has started to ping after shutting off. This is a rebuilt engine that only has 1400 miles on it. I know it’s normal to some degree because of the torque of the engine to make that clunking noise but this seems a little bit extreme my 81 does it also but not nearly as severe
