Frame and bird cage.

I have a 1981 Vette that I purchased and it needs the frame section by the drivers door up to the front fixed. I was then told to buy a 1977 car that was on line for the frame and bird cage that they were a perfect match because they were the same car. My question to you is, is this a true statement or he just dumping his car on me?
