C5 trunk lid doesn't pop open

Is the trunk lid on a C5 convertible supposed to pop open when unlocked? Mine unlocks fine but the lid stays closed making it hard to open. Is there a defective part or is this the way it is supposed to be?

I had the same issue, and I just put a small cone spring right next to the latch on the top, so it springs it high enough to get your fingers underneath.
