C4 Sputters upon Acceleration

I have a 1985 Corvette and when I accelerate the gas pedal, the Vette sputters and misfires and my engine light turns on. Then I have to pull over and turn off the ignition and wait about two minutes then turn on the ignition to start the vehicle and then all runs well with no engine light on. It does this pretty often routinely.
