brake warning light on all the time

Brake pedal is firm and brakes are working properly. Emergency hand brake switch functions correctly, however, brake warning light is on all the time. i unplugged the wire to the proportion valve and light is still on. wondering what else it could be???? short in the wire??? are there common problem spots for this???
