Air conditioning compressor clicks on and off

The air conditioning compressor clicks on and off every 5 t0 10 seconds.It causes the engine idle to jump 200 rpms when it goes from off to on.Driving at hiway speeds it is no problem,but when in slow traffic and the rpms are less than 900 it jerks.It is a standard transmission.I have noticed some oil leaking from the compressor.I have owned the car since new ,it has 62,000 miles on it.
