C5 Corvette Tires refer to all years of Corvette C5 1997-2004. The OEM Tire was the Good Year Eagle F1 GS EMT. The "EMT stands for Extended Mobility Tire or Run Flats. All years of C5's came with Run Flats except for the Z06. The production for the Z06 ran from 2001-2004 and the sizes are different than the Base model. The Z06 did not utilize an EMT tire or a spare but instead was equipped with a tire repair kit. These repair kits although rare provide an option to ditching the EMT or Runflat tires on the Base Corvettes. By doing so you can cut down on the road noise from the EMT tires. |
Good Year Eagle F1 GS EMT
This is what Good Year says about the EMT Tire!
The Eagle F1 GS EMT (Extended Mobility Technology) is Goodyear's Ultra High Performance Summer self-supporting run-flat tire developed for C5 Corvette coupes, convertibles and hardtops. Featuring Goodyear's Extended Mobility Technology, these tires provide temporary mobility even after a puncture results in complete loss of air pressure. The Eagle F1 GS EMT is designed to blend wet and dry traction with treadwear, however like all summer tires, it is not intended to be driven in near-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.
The Eagle F1 GS EMT molds Goodyear's AATRAX tread compound into a directional tread design. Large shoulder blocks, continuous center ribs and a multi-radius profile offer confident steering and uniform wear while dual race-bred Aquachannels help provide efficient water evacuation to promote wet traction.
The tire's internal structure includes twin steel belts reinforced by spirally wound nylon overlays and an angled ply carcass to combine disturbance-free operation with high-speed durability. The tire's reinforced sidewalls are capable of temporarily supporting the weight of the vehicle even after a puncture results in complete loss of air pressure.
NOTE: Extended Mobility Technology tires are only recommended for vehicles that are originally equipped with self-supporting run-flat tires and equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system.

Non Run Flat Tires
One of the draw backs to C5 Corvette Tires is actually the Run Flat feature. This very nice benefit of not being stranded on the side of the road has a draw back! The ride from the tires translates much of the road surface to the occupants! Another draw back is the price. A regular tire without this feature can drastically reduce the cost to replace the rubber when the time comes. In our C5 we use a plug repair kit and a portable air-compressor and tire gauge. Most punctures if found early enough can be removed with pliers and plugged with a kit you can find at most auto stores and places like Walmart or even gas stations!
C5 Corvette Tires for Z06
Z06 C5 Corvette Tires as stated before are of the Non Run Flat type. They are also higher performance then the base model Corvette. Generally higher performance can also mean higher wear. Factor in the power and cornering ability of a Corvette and your single biggest cost of ownership expense will be tires! The OEM Brand is Good Year Eagle F1 Supercar tires!

Eagle F1 Supercar tires are Goodyear's Max Performance Summer tires developed for the drivers of select performance cars, like the Chevrolet Corvette C-5 Z06, Chrysler 300C SRT and Ford GT. Eagle F1 Supercar tires are designed to emphasize dry road traction and handling. Like all summer tires, they are not intended to be driven in near-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.
Eagle F1 Supercar tires feature a high grip Goodyear AAtrax tread compound (the AAtrax name emphasizing that the Eagle F1 Supercar earns the highest "AA" Uniform Tire Quality Grade wet traction rating) molded into a slightly reduced tread depth (just 6/32" to 7/32" of new tread depth on Ford GT tires and 8/32" for Corvette tires) asymmetric tread design that combines large outer shoulder and intermediate tread blocks to increase initial steering response and cornering stability with a solid center rib to maintain constant road contact and enhance straight-line tracking. Wide circumferential grooves and smaller interior tread and shoulder blocks help water escape from between the tire and the road to maintain wet traction and hydroplaning resistance. The tire's structure includes twin, high-tensile steel belts reinforced with spirally wound Aramid to distribute the vehicle’s load across the tire’s footprint providing high-speed durability and uniform ride qualities. Polyester body plies enhance high temperature and high-speed durability while exterior sidewall rim flange protectors help guard wheels against curb damage.
