81 dash lights

I bought a 81 and the dash lights was not working. Here what's been done so far. Pull all dash out replaced printed cericit on both speed-o and gauges replace head lights switch all fuses are good
Only the green wire at the back of speed-o has power
I can just from the green wire to the gray wire and they work as they should but when you hit the dimmer switch they go out
And I do have a new dimmer switch in it
The ground on left side kick panel is good
If anyone can help with this I would dance at your next wedding
