Matching Numbers???
by: Ammo46190

In the Corvette workd, matching numbers is a big deal to some folks. Matching numbers is making sure all the "as built" components are sill on the car or originial to the car. Now the vin you listed: 1Z7K2S24575 is missing some info. A true vette Vin has 13 digits in it. Here is the decoded vette vin info:
1=Chevrolet
Z=Corvette
(Now here is where you vin is missing a digit) The next two digits are for the body style (37 for coupe (T-Top) and 67 for convertible
K=350 4 barrel
2=year 2 for 1972
S=Assembly plant S for St Louis
Here you are missing another number. All serial numbers for 72's start with 500001.

Now for the bad news: CKL is the engine code for a 1973 Impala 350 block. A true 72 vette 010 block will be stamped: CKW for base 4 speed; CDH base 4 speed w/NB2; CKX with Th400 auto; CDJ with TH400 w/NB2; CKY LT1 4 speed; CKZ LT1HD 4 speed; CRT LT1 4 speed w/A.I.R. and lastly CRS LT1 TH400 auto w/ A.I.R.

All info came out of the "Corvette Parts Interchange Manual". Good luck and dirve it like you stole it!!!
