1974 corvette gets stuck in neutral while driving

While sitting with the engine off, I can shift into all four gears plus reverse, and shortly after starting I can shift from reverse to first all the way to fourth. But after the engine seems to warm up, such as in city traffic, the car will get stuck in neutral when attempting to shift up or down, and refuse to seat into any gear.
